<<br>> Rock Against Racism is an annual event at SUNY New
Paltz. Every year around the end of April, people gather at the Old
Main Quad for a day of inspiring political music and speakers. Music
ranges from hip hop to spoken word and from rock to soul. It’s an
amazing time and brings together people both in and outside the New
Paltz community. What RAR is is a huge political platform through the
medium of music. Though we are undoubtedly "rockin against racism" that
is not the only thing we are concerned with, we are trying to send a
variety of messages including: ending the drug war, ending the war on
terrorism, environmental issues, anti-consumerism, and just simply
trying to promote consciousness and empowerment within the community.
Rock Against Racism involves people of all cultures taking a stand
together as one. The event is free and opened to the public! |

Seeking Justice, Speaking Truth: The Khalil Gibran International Academy (KGIA) was founded as a place for our children and our city to learn about and celebrate Arabic language and culture. Then, however, hate groups rallied NYC tabloids and city leadership behind their agenda of racism and lies. Communities in Support of KGIA will not let anti-Arab and anti-Muslim hate jeopardize this school and the ability of Arab and Muslim educators and administrators such as Debbie Almontaser to take leadership within it. Arabic culture is an essential part of the cultural mosaic of Brooklyn and all of NYC. Join us for a night of speakers, art, and performance highlighting the importance of KGIA, its goals and its purpose, as well as the challenges it faces. |
